Ready to Tiller Hickory Stave - 30#
This is a great board bow stave for taking your first try at final tillering. The bend of the limbs will be very close, but not perfect. There will be no hinges in the limbs, so you don't need to worry.
We have taken our premium floor tillered stave and worked it to a point to be strung to brace height (approx 6"). There is no need to do long string tiller. This bow has only been strung, we have not pulled it to full draw. You can get right to the final tillering. This means correcting minor tillering flaws with a rasp, scraper or even a belt sander. Generally the necessary correction will be making the stiffer limb less stiff, so that it bends evenly with the more flexible limb. The handle has been pre-shaped, and is ready for rounding, adding a riser, or an arrow rest. The draw weight is already very close to finished weight, +/- 5 pounds. Bow stands 72" from tip to tip when unstrung and about 69" when strung.
Comes with a U-Finish bow string with instructions for making the loop splices.
Steps to finish:
1. Follow the instructions to finish your bow string with two simple loop splices
2. Sand the string notches smooth
3. String the bow and adjust the tiller by sanding to make the stiff limb more flexible
4. Work the wood in, draw the bow six to ten times
Repeat 3 and 4 until both limbs are even
5. Sand to desired grit, decorate and finish
